Deka Trends is a contemporary West African brand creating apparel, jewellery, and home goods grounded in cultural knowledge.
We do not decorate with culture. We carry it.
West African symbols circulate without their stories, removed from the contexts that give them meaning. We're ending that—carrying culture forward with care, accuracy, and respect. This is restoration.
The Beginning
My mother, Hope—a seamstress and visual artist—raised me to understand that artistry is not embellishment. It is declaration.
In 2019, three generations of my family stood together on Parliament Hill—sharing the art and meaning of headwraps and African prints. That moment affirmed what I had always known: cultural heritage and modern expression are not separate. They were never meant to be.
Funtunfunefu Denkyemfunefu—unity in diversity. Three generations, one vision. It began with one.
What Deka Means
"Deka" means one or united in Eʋegbe/Geŋgbe. That meaning continues. The diaspora is one people—connected by culture, memory, and shared inheritance. Distance may exist, but culture endures. Our work honours that unity across generations and geographies.
How We Work
Every design follows the Sankofa principle: return and retrieve what is essential.
Our work is guided by intergenerational knowledge, lived experience, and intentional study. It moves beyond surface inspiration, carrying culture forward with care and accuracy. This is restoration.
What We Create
Deka Trends is organized into five collections, each designed as a pathway for cultural reconnection:
Wear Your Story – Apparel where story, identity, and intention are woven into every design.
Treasured Pieces – Jewellery rooted in philosophy, symbolism, and meaning.
Living Spaces – Custom pieces for intentional, story-filled environments.
Memories Preserved – Home goods created to honour lineage, memory, and legacy.
Season of Hope – Faith-based pieces honouring my mother's life and influence.
Our Foundation
Three generations, one vision:
Sankofa – Learning from the past. The foundation passed down through my mother, Hope.
Dwennimmen – Strength with humility. Grounded in conviction, open to learning—from elders and the next generation.
Mmere Dane – Times change. We are empowered to shape that change, carrying responsibility to inspire the next generation with hope, pride, and joy.
Every piece follows these guiding principles: learning from the past, empowerment in the present, and responsibility toward the future.
Who This Is For
Deka Trends is a home for the Diaspora to reclaim our stories, and for curious hearts seeking to honour a heritage of timeless wisdom. Whether returning to your roots or reaching out to understand them, you are welcome on the journey.
About the Founder
My mother taught me three things: be bold, be strong, celebrate who you are.
I built Deka Trends on that foundation. My training is in fashion design, visual arts, and business management. My work is in cultural restoration. I create from Ottawa, guided by intergenerational knowledge and deep commitment to authenticity.
This brand exists because the work matters. The stories matter. You matter.
I'm Kafui.
